Marriage Traditions in Poland

A classic Polish ceremony used to be a three or yet four moment occasion. Generally, it was held outside in flowers, woodland and barns. They were a celebration of life and the wealth of dynamics. Today, however, many couples choose to forgo the religion and basically include a ceremony in their apartment or yard with close family and friends. They still enjoy the excellent meal, music and whiskey but it’s not quite what it once was.

On the day of the marriage, just before midnight ( or around it if a one- morning bridal), comes the common meeting known as “oczepiny“, the opening of the bride. At this point, the veil is removed and she dons her czepek – a helmet worn by Polish angels to reflect their reputation as committed people. This is also when the lengthy locks are unbraided and cut quick, as a symbol of her changeover from boyhood to femininity.

As the couple leave the church, guests wash them with currencies and grains, to offer them luck and prosperity. They then change into their party outfits. It is also classic to throw small, square coins into the child’s locks– whoever collects the most will be in charge of their finances.

The group begins, and you’ll get a lot of dancing going on. Poles assume that this reduces the side effects of too much drinking. There will be a lot of food very, including lots of different kinds of sweets, pastries and ice cream.
